1. Restoration and Protection of Natural Resources

Imukya Initiatives operates in regions endowed with significant natural resources, including Mt. Rwenzori, Kibale Forest Reserve, Semuliki National Park, and the Mpanga River catchment areas. Our efforts in these areas focus on:

  • Reforestation and Afforestation: Planting trees to restore forest cover, enhance carbon sequestration, and protect watersheds.
  • Wetland Restoration: Rehabilitating degraded wetlands to improve water quality, support biodiversity, and provide flood control.
  • Wildlife Conservation: Protecting endangered species and their habitats through anti-poaching measures and community awareness programs.

2. Climate-Smart Agriculture

  • Changing Hydrological Regimes: Alterations in rainfall patterns and water availability, impacting water resources and agricultural cycles.
  • Increased Frequency of Extreme Events: More frequent and severe droughts and floods, causing widespread damage to infrastructure, crops, and homes.
  • Glacier Retreat: Notable glacier retreat on Mount Rwenzori, threatening water supplies and local climate regulation.
