Background

Imukya Initiatives which locally translates to “raising Hope, awareness, expectations and standard of living of the most vulnerable members of Society” is a nonprofit organisation founded by enterprising and humanitarian persons with a rich background in social work/ development, microfinance and entrepreneurship.

The inspiration to start this initiative was as a result of findings during their time of active service delivery in the areas of Health, Education, Economic empowerment, environmental conservation and promotion of Human Rights.

An amalgamation of experiences from different communities in Uganda brought to light the need to have a platform that would address the critical needs of the vulnerable groups especially children, youth and women in Uganda hence the initiative.

Operating context

The organizational activities are implemented directly using community based participatory approaches and structures which includes involvement of local leaders (Government civil servants and Political leaders, Religious leaders and opinion leaders and the communities).

The participatory community empowerment approach is people centered initiative emphasizing the building of capacities of vulnerable people to take charge of their own development and lives. It focuses on creating an enabling environment for people to be self-reliant and sufficient in their day today socio economic and Health needs.

Objectives:

  1. To implement economic empowerment interventions for children, youth and women in Uganda.
  2. To complement efforts to conserve natural resources and biodiversity through implementation of climate smart interventions.
  3. To uplift the health, education and human rights of the most vulnerable members of society especially orphans and other vulnerable children.
